FAN HALEN Show Review by Aniruddh "Andrew" Bansal of "MetalAssault.com" from our show at the Hollywood House of Blues on January 22, 2010

The next band were the ever-entertaining Fan Halen, tribute to the David Lee Roth era, the classic Van Halen. I had seen them a couple of times as a support band before, and this time as well they managed to get the crowd warmed up for the headline act to follow. I had never gotten so close to the stage for their shows before, and from what I saw I can definitely say that the Jack Daniels that they drink on stage, straight from the bottle, is the real thing and in the words of Fan Halen's vocalist, 'this ain't no Motley Crue tribute!' Its almost painful to watch them do it, specially the bassist who gulps it down for at least 10 seconds non-stop. Other than that, it was a good show from them overall. I loved their 'Hot For Teacher' cover and guitarist Derek Fuller did excellently well on the Eruption solo.

Here's what I remember from their set list:

  1. You Really Got Me

  2. Atomic Punk

  3. Running With The Devil

  4. Sammy Hagar tease

  5. Hot For Teacher

  6. Eruption

  7. Ain't Talkin' Bout Love

  8. Bottoms Up/drum solo

FAN HALEN at the Universal City Walk review from All-Access Magazine:

The Universal City Walk is having a “Citywalk Summer Block Party” with free entertainment nightly, all summer long, and have a stage set up right across from the Hard Rock Cafe. I checked out Fan Halen, tribute to Van Halen, at their early 8:00PM show on Friday, July 24th. The crowd was diverse, consisting of ALL ages, many in Van Halen/Fan Halen T-shirts, and quite a few people who had just wandered up.

Brian Geller definitely looked the part of David Lee Roth…from his long blonde hair to his spandex, kicks and puckered lips. Derek Fuller took on Eddie Van Halen’s role, smiling the entire time as he knocked out killer riff after riff on his signature guitar and even had a couple jumps of his own. Bass player George DuBose was a lot of fun, and ended the set with a Jack Daniels bass like Michael Anthony is known for. Drummer Larry Cornwall played a shirtless Alex, hitting hard and heavy on his double-bass kit.

Songs included “Unchained,” “Runnin’ with the Devil,” “Dance the Night Away,” “You Really Got Me,” and “Hot for Teacher.” Before playing “Panama,” “Roth” told us that he went to Universal Studios that day and ran into a “kid” in a Van Halen shirt who said that he could play better than the guitar player that they have. 15 year old C.C. entered the stage, or should I say stole the stage, to rock out for “Panama.” It took him a minute to warm up, but before you knew it he was all over the stage, fists in the air, getting the crowd to scream for more.

Later in the set, “Roth” pointed out that they ONLY cover “classic Van Halen” songs with David Lee Roth. As he was saying this, the rest of the band started playing a SAMMY HAGAR song, “There’s Only One Way to Rock!” After getting quite a reaction out of “Roth” and the crowd, they started into “Jamie’s Crying.”

Encore “Jump” was the perfect song to end their 45 minute set, which was packed full of hits. Fan Halen has a lot of fun with their show, including multiple costume changes, energetic stage presence and even a little comedy. The crowd seemed satisfied, and I know they will be coming back for more!

What a night in New Orleans! FAN HALEN showed up to the House of Blues only to find most of the French Quarter without electricity. We were told it would be back on by 7:30PM but at 8:00PM we were still in the dark. We left and went back to our hotel disappointed that we were not going to be able to Rock Louisiana. At 8:15PM the French Quarter lit up like a Roman Candle and we were on the stage by 9:45PM rocking to an awesome crowd!

Welcome to the new FAN HALEN website!

After literally exploding onto the music scene during the late 70's, the Mighty Van Halen emerged as the hottest rock and roll band on the Sunset Strip. With the ever flamboyant Diamond David Lee Roth and guitarist extraordinaire Edward Van Halen spearheading their attack, Van Halen became the quintessential "party band."

By 1984 Van Halen had become the biggest and most popular rock and roll band in the world with their renowned stage performances and their incredible catalog of some the best and most familiar rock tunes ever performed live. If you were lucky enough to have seen Van Halen back in their hay day then you were witness to one of the most extraordinary live bands in the history of rock and roll, and if you didn't, you had really missed out. . .until now!

FAN HALEN brings back the party-time hard-rocking live music of "Classic" Van Halen with a true-to-life tribute to not only the band but the spirit of an era!

FAN HALEN sets the stage for a night with Dave, Eddie, Alex and Michael, in a transformation that has been described as amazingly authentic.

As for the music, these are the songs that are simply etched in our memory banks. Ain't Talkin' Bout Love, Jamies' Cryin', Dance The Night Away, Beautiful Girls, Panama, Hot For Teacher, and their number one hit, Jump. When they're performed live and with the spirit of the original, they take you back to a time when Van Halen shook the earth!
